asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state in respect of each branch office in County Kildare (a) the total number of unemployed and (b) the number of men on the live register respectively on the date for which information is available nearest to each of the following dates, 18th February, 1948, 1951, 1952, 1953 and 13th June, 1951, 1952 and 1953.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

STATEMENT showing (a) the total number of persons registered and (b) the number of men included at (a) at the Local Offices of the Department of Social Welfare in Co. Kildare on the dates shown.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state in respect of each county (a) the total number of unemployed and (b) the number of men on the live register respectively on the date for which information is available nearest to each of the following dates: 18th February,1948, 1951, 1952 and 1953 and 13th June, 1951, 1952 and 1953 and the total in each case.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose,with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

TABLE showing in respect of each County—

(a) the total number of persons (i.e., men, boys, women and girls) and

(b) the number of men

registered at Local Offices of the Department of Social Welfare on the Saturday preceding the last Monday in February, 1948, 1951, 1952 and 1953 and on the Saturday preceding the last Monday in May, 1951, 1952 and 1953 and the grand total of each category for each date.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of registered unemployed for the first week of June in each of the years 1951, 1952 and 1953 in the following towns: (i) Portarlington, (ii) Rathdowney, (iii) Durrow, Laoighis, (iv) Stradbally, Laoighis, (v) Abbeyleix, (vi) Tullamore, (vii) Edenderry, (viii) Ferbane, (ix) Birr, (x) Clara, (xi) Portlaoighise, (xii) Mountmellick and (xiii) Mountrath.

The statistics compiled in my Department do not provide the precise information required. I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have circulated in the Official Report two tabular statements giving the nearest information available.
