Vol. 140 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Preservation of State Property.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that as a result of the demolition of Bord na Móna hostels at Turraun bog, County Offaly, a large quantity of valuable timber, lead and other material now lie in the open and unprotected; and, if so, what steps are or will be taken by Bord na Móna to preserve this State property.

While I must make it clear that I have no official function in the administration of Bord na Móna I have made inquiries and have been informed by the board that the hostel has not been demolished but has been dismantled for transfer to and erection on another bog. The dismantled material has been stacked or stored in such a manner as to ensure adequate protection against either weather or pilferage.

Mr. O'Higgins

My information is that while some protection is available during the day time, no protection is available at nighttime.

Mine is that a night watchman is employed and that there is constant surveillance.
