Vol. 140 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Capital Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the actual amount of capital expenditure in each of the years 1948-49, 1949-50, 1950-51, 1951-52 and 1952-53 and the estimated amount for the financial year 1953-54

Capital expenditure financed by the State—to which it is assumed the question refers—includes, in addition to direct Exchequer outlay for capital purposes, the investment of departmental funds in Dublin and Cork Corporation stocks and the capital expenditure defrayed from the Hospitals' Trust Fund. The totals for the years mentioned are as follows:—

£ million

1948-49

13.6

1949-50

25.7

1950-51

26.7

1951-52

41.2

1952-53

36.2

1953-54

39.3

(estimate)

The reduction in 1952-53 as compared with 1951-52 is attributable almost entirely to the fact that Dublin Corporation obtained the bulk of its loan requirements in 1952-53 from the public and the banks.
