Vol. 140 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Employees: Wages Increase.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state if temporary employees, including labourers, employed by his Department, have received any increases in their wages commensurate with the increases recently granted to established civil servants; and, if not, if he will state the considerations which precluded the payment of such increases to these State employees.

The majority of the temporary staff, including the majority of the labourers, employed in my Department have already been paid the increases granted to established civil servants as a result of the Government's decision on the report of the arbitration board's findings. We have under consideration the cases of certain temporary classes, including some labourers, who do not come within the scope of the award and whose pay is not fixed by reference to the rates paid in similar outside employment.
