Vol. 140 No. 10

Supplementary Estimate—Leave to Introduce.

I move:—

That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Supplementary Estimate for the service of the year ending on the 31st March, 1954, namely:—

Vote No.—

50 (Industry and Commerce).

What is the Supplementary Estimate for?

For Mianrai Teoranta.

Is not part of it included in the Vote on Account?

Does the Minister not intend it to be included?

A Supplementary Estimate will be required in any event for this service.

But will the issue that is on the Order Paper under No. 4 include any part for the Supplementary Estimate?

Yes. There is provision for the same service in the main Estimate.

It is not a new Estimate?

Would the Minister kindly relate the introduction of this Supplementary Estimate to the Taoiseach's emphatic declaration that over his dead body would no Supplementary Estimate be introduced?

This was foreseen when the Budget was being prepared.

Is it one of the items necessary in consequence of the by-election in Wicklow?

Leave granted.
