Vol. 141 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Dublin River.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is prepared to provide a grant under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, which would enable the Delvin River at Naul, County Dublin, to be cleaned and deepened as required by the Garristown and Delvin Drainage Board, which is responsible for cleaning the upper portion of this river.

The selection of works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, to be proposed for my approval for execution with the aid of grant is one for each local authority. Dublin County Council do not propose to undertake any work on this river under the grant which will be available in the current year.

The responsibility for maintaining the Garristown and Delvin River drainage district is by virtue of an Order made in 1927 under Section 20 of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, as amended by Section 3 of the Drainage Maintenance Act, 1924, vested jointly in the Dublin and Meath County Councils and the business of the district is administered by a joint committee of both bodies.
