Vol. 142 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Haulbowline Oil Bunkering Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is now in a position to make an announcement as to the provision of oil bunkering facilities at Haulbowline for ships using Cobh harbour and the necessary dredging of the anchorage for oil tankers and ships desiring to use the harbour.

It has been decided to carry out an engineering survey at Haulbowline to investigate the possibility of securing and maintaining the necessary depth for ocean-going tankers by means of dredging orotherwise. The question of having the work carried out will be considered when the report of the survey is available. The prospect of having further work carried out at the jetty would be greatly enhanced if firm proposals were made for the operation of a bunkering service on a commercial basis on the completion of the works.
