Vol. 143 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Printing Contract.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that Aer Lingus have given a printing contract to a Dutch firm, and if he will state the circumstances in which this contract was given to a Dutch firm when Irish firms are available who are competent to carry out the work satisfactorily.

The matter referred to in the question is one of day-to-day administration, in regard to which I have no function.

While appreciating the fact that the Minister has no direct responsibility, does he think it desirable that State-sponsored bodies should place contracts of this nature outside the country when firms are available to carry out the work competently here at home?

This is a joint enterprise, not owned exclusively by the State here, and furthermore under the terms of our legislation articles required for the operation of international air services are not subject to any import duty.
