Vol. 143 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inny Drainage.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the delay in carrying out the drainage of the Inny River and its tributaries is causing serious loss to farmers in the area and preventing them from taking part in the land reclamation scheme and if he will state when it is proposed to proceed with the drainage of the River Inny catchment area.

An engineering survey of the Inny catchment area has been in progress since 1951 and will, it is hoped, be completed next year. Subsequently considerable time will be required for the design and preparation of a scheme, which must be exhibited and confirmed in accordance with the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. Pending compliance with the statutory requirements, it is not possible to say when work can be begun.
