Vol. 143 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kellyville (Laoighis) Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received any reports on the danger to the health of the inhabitants in Kellyville, Athy, County Laoighis, which exists by reason of the fact that there is no public pump there and no supply of clean water for human consumption there; and, if so, whether he will indicate what steps he has taken in the matter.

I have received no such reports.

The provision of local water supplies is the responsibility of sanitary authorities, who are also empowered to close sources of supply which are considered to be a danger to the public health.

Surely the Minister, as Minister for Health, must have some responsibility for maintaining good health in a district, and where the local authority have failed to provide people with a proper water supply, he should inquire why the local authority have not done that.
