Vol. 143 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the grave hardship and serious danger to health arising from the absence of a public pump and a supply of clean water to the many residents at Kellyville, Athy, he will cause an inquiry to be held into the non-provision of these facilities.

The provision of public pumps is the responsibility of the local sanitary authority. Representations already made regarding the need for a pump at Killyville have been brought to the notice of the Kildare County Council.

Killyville is in Laois, and the Kildare County Council would not have any function in the matter.

The Deputy is a member of the county council and can speak there.

I have been a member for 12 years, and I cannot get anything done about a pump at Killyville.

Would the Minister be more careful before he urges us to carry out our functions? We are very good.

Maybe the Kildare County Council would do it for us.

I do not know but that the pump if erected would serve the people of both counties.

They would have to swim the canal to get to it. However, we would be very thankful if Kildare would do it.
