Vol. 143 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Cars in Accidents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state where, at what hour and on what date each of the drivers of the State cars involved in the accidents mentioned in his reply to Question No. 26 on 1st December, 1953, reported each such occurrence; and whether the appropriate information was given by such driver at the time of such report.

Mr. Boland

I am informed by the commissioner that the requirements of the law were complied with in the case of each of the accidents specified.

At what hour and on what date?

Mr. Boland

There is no necessity to state that.

Is the Minister going to answer the question or is he trying to avoid——

Mr. Boland

I have answered the question. I wonder what does the Deputy think he will gain by pursuing this.

I will tell the Minister what he will gain. The Deputy is asking the Minister why the accident was not reported by the person sitting behind the driving wheel, as is required by the law? It was for the purpose of getting that fact on to the records of this House that the question was asked.

Mr. Boland

I am telling the Deputy that the requirements of the law were carried out in all three accidents.

The law was not carried out by the person sitting behindthe driving wheel. It was done by someone else for him.
