Vol. 143 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tariff on Wire.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the range of wire other thanbarbed wire affected by the recent tariff.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the customs duty imposed in June last under Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 308) (Iron and Steel Wire, Bars and Sections) Order, 1953. The range of wire, other than barbed wire, affected by that Order is as follows:—

"Iron or steel wire of single strand of which no cross-sectional dimension exceeds three-eighths of an inch, which is either coated with zinc or uncoated and which has not been worked and is not insulated;

Wire consisting wholly of not more than 26 single strands of iron or steel wire twisted together, which is either coated with zinc or uncoated and which has not been worked and is not insulated."
