Vol. 144 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Civilian Employment at Cork Barracks.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether work has recently been made available at Collins Barracks, Cork, to civilians; and, if so, whether preference is given to ex-soldiers seeking such work.

Work entailing the employment of additional civilians has been proceeding at Collins Barracks, Cork, since August last. In accordance with the usual practice these civilians were selected from among men nominated by the employment exchange authorities, preference being given to men who were previously employed by my Department but "laid off" on the grounds of redundancy and to men who have had I.R.A. or Army service.
