Vol. 144 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Facilities for Industrial School Children.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that no funds are available to pay rail or bus fares for children in industrial schools to go home for a summer holiday; and, if so, whether he will make available to the superiors of such schools either funds or rail and bus vouchers so that children will not in future be deprived of holidays at home.

Provision is made in the Estimates each year since 1944-45 for the payment of grants towards travelling expenses of children allowed home on holidays from industrial schools. My Department is not aware of any case where a child has been deprived of home leave for lack of provision for travelling expenses.

If any such case is brought to the Minister's attention we may expect that provision can be made?

Thank you.
