asked the Minister for Finance whether a communication has been received in his Department from the union of persons employed on the Feale drainage scheme regarding an increase in pay and improved conditions of service; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Feale Drainage Scheme.
The communication referred to in the first part of the question related to the pay of a small number of individual workers and to certain working conditions. These representations are under consideration. I may say, however, that following a general review of the wage of labourers and allied classes employed on the arterial drainage schemes being carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works, it has been decided to increase the rate by 1d. an hour with effect as from 1st March, 1954.
