Vol. 144 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Cow Plot.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why the Land Commission did not acquire the cow plot at Nobber, County Meath, on the Gormanston estate, in view of the fact that this cow plot has been used by a number of local landless men for a long number of years and has recently been purchased from the Gormanston estate by a private individual who has trebled the rent.

The Land Commission fully investigated the position regarding the cowpark at Nobber before taking their decision.

The former users of the cowpark have not been denied grazing facilities by the present owner and my information is that the real bone of contention is the sum charged per head of stock grazed; this is a matter of bargaining and could surely be settled by reasonable arrangement amongst the parties themselves.
