Vol. 144 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order:—Nos. 5, 7, 9 and 16. Private Deputies' business will be taken at 9 o'clock.

Might I mention a matter of order which does not appear on the Order Paper? This and the other House set up a Joint Committee to deal with the consolidation of the fisheries law. That Joint Committee made a representative report some time ago. We have been waiting for word as to when it will be dealt with. The members of the committee received no word when it would be dealt with. Rumour has it that it has been decided to shelve submission of that codification at the moment pending a statute law revision Bill. I think in fairness to the members of the committee that they and the House should be told at the next date convenient what are the intentions.

I will make inquiries.

May I ask the Tánaiste when he hopes it may be possible to remove certain long-standing items on the Order Paper, items such as the Taoiseach's motion in regard to rules of order and the one by the Minister for Finance with regard to the investigation of Estimates? Another item has now come up which is of some urgency in regard to the Dáil.

And the Defence Bill.

The Dáil Restaurant motion will be on to-morrow. I will tell the Deputy next week when we will be able to deal with the others.

They are using up a tremendous amount of printed paper for a long time.
