Vol. 144 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurable Employment Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons employed in insurable occupations for the years ended 31st December, 1952 and 1953.

The estimated average number of persons employed weekly in the year ended 31st December, 1952, in occupations formerly insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts was 364,700. As a result of the coming into operation of the Social Welfare Act, 1952, it has not been possible to compile for the year 1952 the corresponding estimate for the average employment of persons in occupations formerly insured under the National Health Insurance Acts. The compilation in respect of the year 1953 of an estimate of the average weekly number of persons employed, who were insured under the Social Welfare Act, 1952, is being examined.
