asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that the historic salmon fisheries on the Corrib river situated in the City of Galway are for sale and whether these fishery rights and preserves have been offered to his Department and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Galway Fisheries.
The fishery rights referred to were offered to my Department for purchase in March, 1953. I was not then, and am not at this stage, prepared to undertake the acquisition of these rights in advance of the scheme for the compulsory acquisition of such fisheries generally which is contemplated in Part V of the Fisheries Act, 1939.
