Vol. 144 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dredging of Fenit Harbour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the reconstruction work of the viaduct at Fenit, County Kerry, is near completion and that repeated applications have been made to his Department for financial assistance to complete the dredging of the harbour; and, if so, if he will state if it is proposed to make a grant available to carry out the work.

A State grant amounting to over £200,000 is being made available to the Tralee and Fenit Harbour Commissioners to meet the cost of an approved scheme of works which is now approaching completion. In addition, a grant of over £17,000 was made for the repair of the commissioners' dredger. The position is, therefore, that the State has made a direct and substantial contribution to the cost of the dredging referred to in the question and no further contribution is contemplated.
