Vol. 144 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Naval Service.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the pressing need of the Irish Naval Service for a ship which would serve the double function of transporting stores in a time of emergency and of training naval personnel afloat in peace time; and, if so, if he will indicate when such a vessel will be placed at the disposal of the Naval Service.

As I indicated in my reply to a similar question from the Deputy on 16th July last, I am aware of the need of the Naval Service for a ship to serve the functions mentioned. The matter is under consideration, but I am not yet in a position to say when such a vessel may be provided.
