Vol. 144 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Undeveloped Areas Act Orders.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of Orders made by him under Section 3 of the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952, and the areas specified in these Orders.

One Order has been made under Section 3 of the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952. It applies to the townlands of Clarehill, Lissan East, Lissan West, Islandmcgrath, Islandavanna Upper and Islandavanna Lower, in the Barony of Islands, County Clare.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the high rate of unemployment in Kinsale, County Cork, he will make an Order under Section 3 of the Unveloped Areas Act, 1952, applying to this area.

Consideration cannot be given to the question of making an Order under Section 3 of the Undeveloped Areas Act to bring Kinsale within the scope of that Act, in advance of the submission of proposals for industrial development in the area, which in other respects would warrant the grant of assistance by An Foras Tionscal.

Should it be possible that this information might be made available will the Minister consider giving effect to it?

I had to make that clear before, that this is a question which I am not prepared to consider in relation to any area until it is clear that there is an industrial proposal which in other respects would qualify for help from An Foras Tionscal.

Should that request be put up and the conditions be considered favourable towards that industry will the Minister then consider giving the same concessions to this undeveloped area as to part of County Clare?

At that time I will consider it.
