Vol. 144 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed Nitrate Industry at Banagher.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is proposed to establish a £3,000,000 State-sponsored nitrate industry at Banagher, County Offaly; and, if so, if he will state if the site has been approved, and when the proposed new industry is likely to commence production and provide local employment.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to questions addressed to me on this subject on the 3rd and 17th November last, to which I have at present nothing to add.

Is it not a fact that the Minister has given his undertaking that this industry is going to Banagher?

I have nothing to add.

I have asked the Minister whether he has given a personal undertaking that this industry is going to be established at Banagher, and now in order that the interested parties in Banagher may be prepared for further developments in the matter would he state when it is proposed that the site would be selected?
