Vol. 144 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leinster Lawn.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the possibility of arranging to have Leinster Lawn open to the public for a few hours on Sundays.

The question of reopening Leinster Lawn to the public, as suggested, has been considered but it has been decided that such a course would not be desirable.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say why?

This question came before the previous Government in 1948 and the Commissioners of Public Works were asked to have it examined. They got in touch with the Ceann Comhairle and the Department of Defence and the matter was submitted to the committee set up for the safeguarding of Government buildings. The committee gave a number of reasons stating why it would be inadvisable.

In case the Puerto Ricans would get in. We are beyond that now.

We can always throw the Mollys against them.

They would not want them in parts of Cavan now.
