Vol. 144 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenant Cottage Purchase Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that a number of tenants of labourers' cottages purchased their cottages on the basis of an annuity of 75 per cent. of the then existing rents; whether he is aware that, in the Counties of Carlow and Kildare, schemes for the purchase of the same type of cottages at an annuity of 50 per cent. of the present rents have since been introduced; and, if so, whether he will authorise the county manager to apply the annuity of 50 per cent. to the cottages already purchased.

I am aware that revised schemes have been made in respect of unvested cottages in a number of areas. Housing authorities have no power to revise the terms of purchase in respect of cottages already vested nor have I any power to authorise them to do so.

Will the Minister say whether he contemplates the introduction of legislation which would enable county managers where they so desire to revise the annuities of 75 per cent. of the rent and relate these to an annuity based on 50 per cent. of the rent?

I have no intention of doing so.
