Vol. 144 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Rent Collectors' Remuneration.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cases in which local authorities have been permitted to remunerate water rent collectors at a rate exceeding 5 per cent. of the amount collected as stipulated in circular E.L. 76/50.

No general departure has been granted to any local authority to pay a rate in excess of 5 per cent. to water rent collectors appointed since 1950. A rate not exceeding 7½ per cent. has been sanctioned in a few individual cases where the rental was very small, the collector had exceptional travelling to do, or, as a transitional arrangement, pending the making of a permanent appointment, and a rate not exceeding 10 per cent. where two districts, with very small collections, had to be served by a single collector.
