Vol. 144 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Monopoly.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether, as a result of the recent discussions between Britain and this country relating to the air services between the two countries, it has been found possible to have maintained the status quo whereby Aer Lingus will retain its monopoly of air transport between this country and Britain; or, if not, what advantages have been guaranteed to Aer Lingus to offset any rights surrendered to British airlines.

The operation of air services between Ireland and Britain is governed by agreements made in 1946. The recent discussions were directed to a review of the terms of the agreements. This review has not yet been completed.
