Vol. 144 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Whiskey Exports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total (a) quantity and (b) value of Irish whiskey exported during each of the years 1952 and 1953.

The quantity of Irish whiskey exported in 1952 was 366,408 proof gallons, valued at £499,391. The quantity of Irish whiskey exported in 1953 was 193,594 proof gallons, valued at £284,864.

Did I understand the Parliamentary Secretary to say that the quantity and value of exports in 1953 have gone down considerably, compared with 1952, and would I be right in saying that the value of whiskey exported in 1953 was little over half the value of exports in 1952?

The value of exports, in 1952, was £499,391, and, in 1953, £284,864.

That looks bad.
