Vol. 144 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unclaimed Court Money.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the amount of money held unclaimed in the courts and if he will arrange to have the details of the money so held published periodically, or, alternatively, to put on sale at a modest cost a yearly publication giving these particulars.

Mr. Boland

The total amount of unclaimed moneys in the High Court was £713,416 on the 28th February, 1954. The total amount of such moneys in the Circuit Court was £69,626 on the 30th September, 1953, the latest date for which information is readily available.

A rule of court provides for the triennial publication of a list of the dormant accounts in the High Court. The issue of Iris Oifigiúil for 27th November, 1953, contains the most recent publication and copies of the list are on sale in the Government Publication Sales Office, price 1/-.

There is no provision for the publication of information concerning unclaimed moneys in the Circuit Court but I have it in mind to ask the appropriate rule-making authority to consider the question of making a suitable rule to cover the point.
