Vol. 144 No. 11

Private Notice Question.

At noon yesterday I handed in a Private Notice Question to the Taoiseach, to be replied to to-day, asking him——

These questions normally arise on the Order of Business.

Is it not proper that I should ask this before the Order of Business is called, so that he may reply to it before the Order of Business? Otherwise, I might lose the opportunity.

The Deputy will not lose the opportunity. He will get an opportunity if the business is in order. It is usually when the Tánaiste orders business, that questions are asked in reference to the matter.

Those are questions on the Order of Business. This is not a question on the Order of Business but a Private Notice Question.

It will arise on the Order of Business.

With great respect, that is not so.

I will allow the Deputy to ask the question on the Order of Business.

On a point of order, is it perfectly clear to you and to the House that this is a Private Notice Question, not a question on the Order of Business?

It is a question which normally arises out of the Order of Business.

That is where we differ. This is a Private Notice Question.

It is regrettable that we differ but that is where the matter stands.
