Vol. 144 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Bord lascaigh Mhara Trawlers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the gross catches and the net profits of An Bord Iascaigh Mhara trawlers since they commenced operations and also give particulars of the costs of repairs and overheads during the same period.

I am informed by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the total quantity of fish landed by the vessels in question to the end of February, 1954, was 5,436 cwt., which realised £32,678. The net financial result of the operations of these vessels cannot be stated until the board's accounts for the year ending on 31st March, 1954, have been drawn up in final form. The cost of repair and overhaul work carried out to 28th February is approximately £9,400, but this sum in its entirety will not become a charge on the board's funds. The overhead expenses chargeable against the vessels to the same date amount to approximately £13,500.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say from what source will the repairs and overhauls of the three trawlers amounting to £9,000 odd be met, if not from the board's funds?

The greater part of it will be met by insurance.
