Vol. 144 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Alcohol Factories.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether his Department has succeeded in disposing of the industrial alcohol factories, and, if so, at what price; further, if he will indicate for what purpose they will now be used.

The Deputy appears to be under a misapprehension. No decision has been taken by the Government to dispose of the industrial alcohol factories or any of them. As was indicated in the official press notice of 1st January last, the Government is examining the possibility of utilising the four factories in Counties Donegal, Mayo and Monaghan for the development of another industry involving the use of potatoes as a raw material. This examination has not been completed and, meanwhile, all five factories are continuing in production of alcohol for the present season.
