Vol. 145 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Capital Services in 1954-55.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what amount of the Estimates for Public Services, 1954-55, are capital services as defined by him in his Budget statement of 1953, and if he will indicate with reference to each sub-head of each Estimate, how the sum for capital services is made up in respect of the forthcoming financial year.

The amount included in the 1954-55 Volume of Estimates for the "voted capital services" taken into account in framing the 1953 Budget is £14,282,260. Details of the items making up this total are set out in a statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have included in the Official Report.

I should, however, remind the Deputy that, in my Budget statement last year, I did not define the expression "voted capital services." I merely contented myself with charging to capital those particular services and services of a similar character for which my predecessor had been in the habit of borrowing.

Following is the statement:—
