Vol. 145 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Consuls in Britain.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if, in view of the recently expressed approval of the Lord Mayor of Birmingham for the suggestion that consuls should be appointed at Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and other large centres of population in Great Britain and the position that arose regarding charges of contamination made against Irish foodstuffs, he will again review the possibility of making such appointments.

It is not proposed to set up consulates in Birmingham or in the other cities mentioned by the Deputy, as the staff of our London Embassy is quite capable of dealing with any matters affecting either our nationals or our exports.
