Vol. 145 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redemption of Tenanted Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the approximate amount it would take to redeem all the tenanted land in the State.

To ascertain this information, it would be necessary to segregate and reclassify all individual annuity accounts, having regard to current user of the lands. This would entail enormous labour and expense which would not be justified by practical results.

It may suffice, for the Deputy's purpose, to state that advances totalling over £130,000,000 have been made to date, under all Land Purchase Acts; of that amount, some £21,000,000 related to tenanted land purchased under Land Acts, 1923-53.
