Vol. 145 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fish-Meal Plants.

Mr. Coburn

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will request An Bord Iascaigh Mhara to consider the question of the erection of a fish-meal plant at the fishing port of Clogherhead, County Louth.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what progress has been made towards the establishment of a fish-meal plant in West Cork.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 46 and 47 together.

An Bord Iascaigh Mhara has at present in operation a fish-meal plant at Killybegs. The location of any additional plants which it may be decided to erect with the aid of State funds will be a matter for decision having regard to the board's experience with the plant at Killybegs and the availability of adequate and regular supplies of suitable fish at the various fishing centres around the coast. The Deputies may be assured that the suitability of Clogherhead and fishery centres in West Cork will receive every consideration by the board. I may add that there is no restriction as far as the fishery authority is concerned on the establishment of such plants by private enterprise.
