Vol. 145 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Baltimore Lighthouse.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether he is prepared to make a grant available to repair the lighthouse at the entrance to Baltimore harbour.

The harbour commissioners were informed on December 16th, 1952, that as the light at the entrance to Baltimore harbour is required solely in the interests of the local fishing industry, a grant for the repair of the lighthouse could not be made from the limited funds at my disposal for harbour development. It was suggested to the harbour commissioners that they should consider the possibility of arranging that responsibility for the maintenance of the lighthouse should be taken over by one of the local authorities at present maintaining quays at the harbour. No reply to this suggestion has been received from the harbour commissioners.
