Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of men employed in the Counties of Laois and Offaly on forestry work in each of the years 1948 to 1953, inclusive, and the number now employed.

Mr. Lynch

The number of men employed in Counties Laois and Offaly during the week ended 19th March, 1954, the most recent period for which figures are available, were Laois, 280; Offaly, 54.

As the remainder of the information required is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—
