Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Establishment of Industries (Laois-Offaly).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of new industries opened in Laois-Offaly since 13th June, 1951, and where they are situated.

I assume that the question relates to new industries established by private enterprise.

One new industry came to the notice of my Department as having commenced production in Laois-Offaly since 13th June, 1951. It is situated in Birr.

There are three proposals at present before my Department for the establishment of new industries in Laois-Offaly.

In view of the fact that the Minister states that since 1951 one new industry has been established in Laois-Offaly, is he aware that two old and long-established industries have closed down during the same period including the distillery at Tullamore?

If the Deputy would travel around the constituency he would see new power stations, and other activities which are in progress there.
