Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will now state when it is expected that extended work will start on the rural electrification of the parish of Lixnaw, County Kerry.

I have been informed by the E.S.B. that it is expected that the erection of the rural electrification network in the Lixnaw area will be undertaken during the coming summer.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is now in a position to state when rural electrification will be extended to the rest of the parish of Castlemaine, County Kerry.

I have been informed by the E.S.B. that they expect to undertake an official canvass in about two months in the Keel area, which includes the portion of Castlemaine not already developed under the rural electrification scheme. When the results of this canvass are available, the Keel area will be considered for selection. While the board is unable to state when development is likely to take place, they suggest that the prospects of the Keel area being selected at an early date will largely depend on the response of the residents during the coming official canvass.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will request the E.S.B. to speed up the laying of current to Clondulane mills under the rural electrification scheme so that the new company starting there can start production as soon as possible.

I have been informed by the E.S.B. that it is not practicable to bring forward the date of servicing the Clondulane area under the rural electrification scheme. I have also been informed by the board that it is most anxious to facilitate the early supply of electric power to the mills at Clondulane and is considering methods by which this can be done.
