Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Machine for Moss Cleaning.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (1) how long it took the staff at the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards engaged by Gaeltacht Services to turn out a machine for the cleaning of carrageen moss and (2) how much public money has been expended on the turning out of the machine; further, whether he is aware that one of those machines has been in operation in Tralee, County Kerry, for the past five years.

The Industrial Research and Standards Acts contain no provision which imposes on the Minister for Industry and Commerce an obligation to control and supervise the work of the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards in any particular instance and consequently I regret that I am unable to supply the Deputy with the information for which he has asked.
