Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Interest Payments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of interest paid for 1953-54 in respect of (a) borrowing from banks on exchequer bills, (b) public issues of stocks by the Government, (c) land bonds and (d) saving certificates.

The particulars requested are as follows:—(a) £144,426; (b) £3,790,433;(c) £1,205,411; (d) £481,000.

It is interesting to the people to realise how their money and taxes are being spent.

A lot of it is being collected to pay for debts the Coalition raised.
