Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Official Visits Abroad.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in regard to visits abroad made by him since 13th June, 1951, (a) the date and duration of each such visit; (b) the country or countries visited; (c) the purpose of each such visit; (d) the number of civil servants and/or officials of State-sponsored corporations who accompanied him on each such visit, and (e) the total expenditure involved, including travel, hotels, entertainment at embassies, legations or elsewhere, whether borne by State funds or by State-sponsored corporations.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in regard to journeys abroad undertaken by the Taoiseach since the 24th November, 1953, (a) the date, duration, destination and purpose of each such visit; (b) the number of civil servants or other officials who accompanied him or travelled to meet or attend him on each such visit; (c) the total travelling expenses incurred out of public funds by him and such civil servants or other officials in respect of each such visit, and (d) the total of any other expenses incurred out of State funds in relation to each such visit, whether by way of entertainment at embassies, legations or elsewhere or otherwise.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in regard to visits abroad made by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Government since the 13th June, 1951, (a) the date and duration of each such visit; (b) the country or countries visited; (c) the purpose of each such visit; (d) the number of civil servants and/or officials of State-sponsored corporations who accompanied him on each such visit, and (e) the total expenditure involved, including travel, hotels, entertainment at embassies, legations or elsewhere, whether borne by State funds or by State-sponsored corporations.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38, 39, and 40 together.

Much of the information asked for by the Deputy has already been given in response to previous questions by him. I consider that it would not be proper to ask for, or supply, information regarding officials of State-sponsored corporations. Information regarding the duration of official visits, the number of accompanying civil servants and the cost, in so far as not already supplied, is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be included in the Official Report.
