Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Development Fund.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if the departmental committee set up to administer the National Development Fund have considered proposals for the protection of coast erosion; and, if so, whether he will now state if and when grants will be made available to local authorities to have this most urgent work carried out.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that several houses are in danger of being completely undermined by sea erosion at Kilfenora, Spa, Tralee; and, if so, whether he will now state if his Department is prepared to give a grant from the National Development Fund to have protection work carried out by the local authority as a scheme covered by circular H.9/53 issued by the Department of Local Government on 19th November, 1953.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 44 and 45 together.

I am informed that the National Development Committee has not received any proposal for protection works against coast erosion. On the general question of providing moneys from the National Development Fund for such works, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given on the 11th February, 1954, to the questions tabled by Deputy Corish and Deputy Esmonde on this subject.
