Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Soil Erosion.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that valuable rich clay land on the banks of the Stragar river at Aughiningue, Killybegs, County Donegal, has been rendered unworkable as the result of soil erosion on the east bank of the river; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to prevent such erosion from continuing by the erection of a protective concrete wall.

I have been unable to trace any representations regarding the matter mentioned by the Deputy. The construction of embankments or other works to prevent erosion appear to be outside the scope of the works ordinarily undertaken by the Special Employment Schemes Office, but if the landholders concerned will make a formal application under the rural improvements scheme, the matter will be further investigated.
