Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carrageen Exports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (1) the amount of carrageen and seaweed exported to the United States of America over the past four years, and (2) the amount in dollars received from the sale of such commodities.

There were 545 cwt. of carrageen moss and seaweed exported to the United States of America in 1950, 2,428 cwt. in 1951, 5,359 cwt. in 1952 and 2,730 cwt. in 1953. It is not possible to state the amount of dollars received from the sale of such commodities but the f.o.b. values of these exports were £1,721 in 1950, £7,186 in 1951, £12,062 in 1952 and £7,762 in 1953.
