Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Housing.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the recent decision by the Land Commission to employ contractors who supply nothing but the labour on Land Commission housing in County Meath is causing considerable unrest among the trade unions operating there; and, if so, if he will state whether the Land Commission will take steps to stop this practice.

Two contracts (one for one house with out offices; the other for seven houses with out offices) in County Meath have been placed on this basis. In both cases there was some saving in cost and a very considerable saving in time.

I am not aware that the placing of these contracts has caused any unrest among trade unions nor has any complaint reached the Land Commission.
