Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if the Land Commission are yet in a position to allot the lands of (a) the Shaw estate, Tallagh; (b) the Carson estates, Tallagh; (c) the Corcoran estate, Boofeenaun, and (d) the Carter estate, Doolough.

The position regarding each of the cases mentioned by the Deputy is as follows:—

(a) Proceedings for the acquisition of the Shaw estate, Tallagh, are in the final stages, but as the Land Commission have not yet obtained possession it cannot be stated when the lands will be alloted.

(b) A satisfactory scheme for the allotment of the Carson holdings cannot be made until the Shaw estate, which is in the same townland, is also available.

(c) The tenants of the Corcoran holding in Boofeenaun have lodged a petition against resumption and a decision thereon has not yet been given. It is therefore not possible to say whether or when the holding may be available for allotment.

(d) The Land Commission are carrying out a sand fixation scheme on the Carter estate at Doolough and they consider it inadvisable that the lands should be allotted until the sand-blowing has been checked.
