Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coast Life Saving Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the useful and sometimes dangerous duties being performed by members of the coast life saving service and of the very small remuneration offered them; and, if so, if he will have the service rules and regulations modified so that volunteers will get better payment at drills, exercises and calls to life saving; and, further, if he will now make the necessary Orders and arrangements for the renovation, equipping and manning of the look out posts at Ballinskelligs and Valentia.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a similar question on the 10th June, 1953.

As I have indicated on a number of occasions, the coast watching arrangements of the coast life saving service are kept under constant review with the object of effecting improvements wherever possible.
